Welcome to my world!
A place of magic, situated on just over 6 acres of pristine wilderness on Gambier Island, overlooking the Howe Sound of British Columbia, Canada.
This is a place where Hummingbirds, Deer, Eagles and other creatures congregate (including my husband Craig!) to enjoy the fresh air and bounty of the land. We have affectionately named our property The Lone Tree Lookout - if you climb to the top of our driveway (for the stout of heart only), you would see why!

I am a blissfully happy person, enjoying my gardening projects (it never stops), occasionally taking time to build another 'must have' structure such as garden entry pergola or that 'must have before the snow flies' garden shed.
Craig oversees the other projects such as tool shed and firewood lean-to. These are what he likes to refer to as the 'blue projects', but in my opinion, are mostly what I like to refer to as 'the red-green show'(inside joke). Well - we are both extremely content and enthused with what we do when visiting the island and never tire of it!
Each year, my garden grows bigger as I pick-axe my way into more workable soil and plant more fruit trees. Recently this year, I began to think that I would like to share my gardening passion and experiences with other Brigade Bay neighbours, so "Hummbingbird Hill Farm" was created.

Mr. Lone Tree Lookout oversees all of the fun we have on our island property! Hmmm, what's he thinking here??!!!
OK, well may-be it's a crazy fantasy, but since the creation of my (deer proofed) vegetable garden, I see it growing (ha ha) to the point, where I have enough to share with the rest of our neighbours at Brigade Bay.
Initially purchased as a dream recreational property, Craig and I now see ourselves possibly retiring and living full-time on the island. My long-term goal is to have as many food resources as possible, including healthy organic veggies, fruit, nuts and yes - chickens too!
What does the future hold for Hummingbird Hill Farm? May-be a gardening or chicken rearing co-op?
A roadside stand to sell pots of herbs, veggies and fruit pies from my little orchard composed of an apple, 2-plums, a cherry and peach tree? Oh yes - there's also a fig tree, which our neighbour Nicole has been eyeballing since I planted it in the Spring of 2008 - apparently her favourite fruit....Nicole - I'm watching you :)
Are you a Gardening Fanatic-Island-Loving Brigade Bay neighbour? Let's share some ideas, experiences and recipes!
The intention of starting this website was the result of an evening barbecue, hosted by our good friends and neighbours Brian and Randy.
Randy and I both love to garden and grow vegetables, so we found ourselves talking about what we love to do most....how do we battle the slugs? / deer proof? / water the thirsty vegetables? / which ones do well? / freezing? / recipes? As we enjoyed a sumptuous dinner featuring fresh produce from Randy's garden efforts, we decided that it would be fun to share our island experiences with other neighbours. As I talked about my dream to have chickens for eggs in the future, I was surprised and pleased to find out that others had been thinking the same!
So - if there are other Brigade Bay neighbours out there who want to join in on the experience and idea sharing, I welcome your thoughts!!! I would love to hear from you! If I haven't met you yet, I look forward to when we can.
E-Mail me your ideas...new recipes? plants you have tried on your site that the deer don't like? decorating ideas? landscaping? 1001 ways to us the rocks that you have extracted from your garden site?
